I wrote my first song!  Well, I should probably clarify.   I co-wrote my first song.  If it weren’t for Lee, all I would’ve had was another poem. I’ll admit that I’m pretty proud of myself, just because I never thought a girl who took four years of piano lessons, and now can barely play Chopsticks, would ever add song-writing to her resume.

Lyric-writing is tougher than I thought it would be.  I had to condense what I wanted to say so it would not only fit into the melody, but tell a story in only three or four minutes.  Anyone who knows me, knows how much I like to talk, so limiting the amount of words I could use was a challenge.  Needless to say the poem I started out with and the final lyrics were two separate beasts, but this was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever worked on.  Here’s the song; hope you like it. Sorry my voice is just fair to middlin’.

 Sweet Talk Me

Thank you sir for the bouquet,

Just pick a daisy for me.

You’ll remind me of my younger days,

Might catch a glimpse of me.

Whisper words in my ear,

Won’t hold you to what you can’t keep.

Don’t need no gifts just fancy lines,

Bring the shine back to my eyes.

Oh tonight, talk sweet to me.

Compliment my auburn hair,

Pretend the silver’s not there.

Make believe that time ain’t passed us by,

Holding hands without a care.

Whisper words in my ear,

Won’t hold you to what you can’t keep.

Don’t need no gifts, just fancy lines.

Bring the shine back to my eyes.

Oh tonight, sweet talk me.

Sweet talk me.

Sweet talk me.
